Mark, Dave's mate also came along and we were launched around 8.15 into a lovely flat calm sea and sunshine.
The plan was to fish for hounds have a look for some bass and conger and maybe a ray. We had a stop to try for some mackerel for some bait and right away mark had a fish on it absolutly slammed his feathers i first thought it was a full string of mackerel but this was giving hell of a fight and Mark asked if we get tope in the area it was pulling so hard. It came to the surface and we could see it was a decent Bass.
We managed a few mackerel but we had to get going before the tide eased off too much to try the bass mark which was ten miles away.
We got to the bank there was a nice bit of turbulance coming off the bank but no sign of birdlife though and after a couple of drifts no sign of fish on the sounder either. After a couple of more drifts we gave up as the tide had eased off too much and headed to a mark just to have a good look at it more than anything for a future trip and then it was off to find the hounds.
The baits had been in a little while before the first hound of the day came along taking the line off the reel and from then on it was pretty constant action with the hounds homed in on the crab baits.
The wind was building so we decided to get the anchor in and try a couple of drifts over the top of the bank to see if there were any plaice around but there was nothing so we headed back towards Swansea to have a go on the bass again.
We got there and we were instantly treated to a dolphin show which is always a nice sight but the wind was quite strong by now and it was pretty rough on the bank. We did a few drifts again nothing showing and was a little too rough to fish on the reef so we decided to head into Swansea bay in a bit of shelter.
We were soon catching again Mark was doing well with the hounds i had my first bream of the year along with a few dogs.
About to pack up for the day Dave had a decent bite and was into something good putting a decent bend in the rod and after putting up good fight Dave had caught his first ever conger. He was chuffed and so was i that we had managed to find one for him right at the death.
We didn't weigh the eel but guessed it to be around 15lb.
