With a cracking forecast on sunday we fished the afan boat club cod comp. It was a club comp for members only with an amazing £750 on offer for 1st prize 2nd was club dues paid for a year 3rd £250 4th £250 awesome money fair play. There were 93 entries with 'our business' winning with a cod around 6 and a half pounds well done guys.
It was a very cold morning with plenty of ice over the boat we launched around 7.30 and fired the engine up only to notice there was nothing coming out of the tell tale thinking it was frozen I let it run a while in the hope it would clear but it didn't and couldn't take the risk of leaving like that in case there was a problem, we tied up on the pontoon and got the cover off to cut a long story short the end was blocked with ice.
With a lovely flat sea for a change we were soon on our mark and getting bites from the off
I had a strap to start the day off

We were quite near to high water so put out some fish baits in the hope of some spurdogs and soon after they were showing with stead getting the first.
Then Ian and myself were getting them
Even the fish were smiling for the camera
We moved back inshore in the search for some cod and headed to a mark just south west of the SWIGG buoy on the rough ground and were soon catching a steady flow of codling up to 4 and a half pound.
The ebb produced 7 codling

Ian was having a bit of a pout as only stead and myself had caught any codling and was getting plenty of ribbing from us but he more than made up for it catching 6 on the flood.
It was a lovely day to be out, makes a change from all the lumpy days we have had of late.

We stopped at another mark closer to Aberavon after dark where Ian picked up another codling of 3 and a half pound which took the tally to 14 keepers before we headed back in for the weigh in where we finished 5th I believe not a bad effort but it was a very good days fishing for a change.
