There hasn't been any reports for a few months due to problems with the old site.
So the 16th November was the Cardiff cod comp which was a very early start for Ian and myself. Stead was not quite ready after his back surgery.
A lot of preparation went into to getting the boat ready to be trailered up to Cardiff and organizing bait. I must give a huge thank you to Steve who supplies our worm he totally saved the day for us by managing to get us the worm at 10pm the night before after we were let down by another digger.
We set off around 5.30am to pick the boat up, while on the way Andy rang to say he had a problem with his trailer just after bridgend. We stopped but were unable to help in any way without tools so had to leave.
We got to the boat club around 7am and were quickly rushed into launching by the staff there which led to me leaving my life jacket in the van! Plenty of spares in the boat tho.
We were in for the 8am lock out.

The lock gates opened and we were greeted with a very rough looking sea due to the stiff north easterly wind. We battled our way out and around lavernock point into sully bay where it was a bit calmer there.
It was bloody cold so plenty of cups of Bovril was needed to keep us going. The fishing was quiet until finally I got a bite that was different to the doggy bites we were getting, fish on and giving a good scrap I was thinking yes this is a cod the way it was pulling only to get it to the surface to be a bloody conger gutted!
That was how the day went really, lots of eels caught over 10 and some thornbacks but no cod.
We stuck at it until the last minute in the hope we would get a cod but it wasn't to be we even missed the lock and had to wait until the 6.45 lock and by the time we got into the river the club slip had turned the lights off so we couldn't find it cheers lol.
so we will try again next year!
