Been itching to get out for a while so myself and Ian made a plan to head east for a change.
We hardly fish up that way so we were looking forward to a change of scenery and there was a nice forecast with light winds.
We launched around 10.30 into a very flat sea and headed out east but first we had to find Dean Ryan and Stuart on Kingfisher to deliver some oil. We found them way out on the horizon and dropped it off, Then we headed to Porthcawl to find a spot to fish.
We dropped the anchor into a ripping spring tide but we managed to hold bottom and we were soon pulling the dogfish in then Ian had something different on and reeled in a strap conger.

Good effort getting this in on a size 4 hook
We had more dogs then the smooth hounds made an appearance and a few huss.

The fishing had slowed so it was time to move so we decided to head up towards the tusker and search out a mark to try and we decided on a promising looking hole to anchor in and within 10 minutes i had caught my first ever spotted ray.
It was quickly followed by a nice little blonde and a few more for us both
Andy James and Jamie on Happy Days must have had binoculars on us as we could see them steaming towards us and then fished along side us to get in on the action but i think James was the only one pulling in the fish lol.
This mark fished really well we had few whiting too but the tide had picked up a lot and it was getting late so we decided to head back towards Port Talbot but we were hoping to have caught the grand slam of rays having had two of them so we stopped on the way back to have a go for a thorn back and a small eye to make it a full house and within five minutes Ian reeled in a small eyed ray.
Then it was my turn only a baby
We didn't manage a thorn back so it was only a triple crown and it was getting dark so we got the anchor in while there was still a bit of visibility left to get back in.
We got back in around 8.30 and had a great day out and managed 8 species not bad for us up east.
